Imam, son killed as troops open fire in Baramulla
Srinagar, June 16: An Imam of a mosque and his son were killed when troops opened fire on them mistaking them for militants at Kreeri in Baramulla district in north Kashmir leading to massive protest demonstrations today, official sources said.

The Imam, Abdul Qayoom Peer, and his son Masood Ahmad Peer
who were on their way home were hit when the troops observing
some movement at Wagoora village in Kreeri area last night
opened fire, the sources said.
They said the troops had laid an ambush following information about movement of some militants in the village.
Agitated over the killing of the Imam and his son, the residents of Frastihal, Wagoora and adjoining villages took to the streets this morning and staged a protest demonstrations before the police station where the bodies were kept, sources said.
Raising slogans against the army nearly 5000 people blocked Wagoora road demanding an inquiry into the incident and punishment to the jawans responsible for the killing.
