Hyderabad, Dec 21: Twenty Karnataka athletes and four officials, returning home after taking part in the ongoing 32nd National Games, had a providential escape when Kachiguda-Bangalore Express train derailed near Kurnool in west-central Andhra Pradesh in the wee hours today. The athletes, including four girls, and officials, who were travelling in coach no nine of the ill-fated train, assisted the authorities in rescue operations, Karnataka deputy chef de mission Mohanraj told a news agency here today. Coaches Ajay Kumar and former Asian bronze medallist S D Eashan and managers Gopalakrishna and Sunil were with returning to Bangalore after the completion of athletic events in the games.
