GSI team takes soil samples to probe strange `vibrations` in Gujarat

Ahmedabad, Feb 12: The Geological Survey of India (GSI) team from Jaipur, which has come to find out the cause of `mysterious vibrations' at the Jamalpur fire brigade quarters, has collected several soil samples as part of the investigation, fire brigade sources said here.
"The team, that arrived in town yesterday, has taken several soil samples from three pits at three different spots where the `vibrations' have been felt strongly. A bore machine
was also used to dig the ground and collect `undisturbed' samples", the sources said today.
The team, comprising GSI Jaipur's director of the earthquake division R K Saxena, A K Saxena and R S Rana from Gandhinagar, has said that the soil test results should be ready in two days, the sources added.
"We will be able to provide a possible reason for the vibrations based on our tests and readings provided by seismologists and the Ahmedabad Electricity Company (AEC)", a team member said.
This is the second scientific team that is probing the unexplained phenomenon that has kept the residents and the officials on an alert since it began some time ago.
Last week, scientists from Indian Meteorlogical Department from Rajkot had taken seismic readings at all the places where the `vibrations' were reported and confirmed that "the vibrations had nothing to do with seismic movement".
Meanwhile, the mysterious `vibrations' of various intensities continue to shake the fire station premises.
The vibrations have created a panic among the residents and firemen in the building for the past two weeks, reminding them of the devastating earthquake two years back.
