Mumbai, Nov 02: In an attempt to boost scientific temper among school children, the Tata Institute of Fundamental Research will organise a student outreach programme for the first time today.
About 130 students of Class Ten from 13 schools have been invited to participate in the programme, the chairperson of the science popularisation and public outreach committee, Dr Mayank Vahia, said here last month.
The programme was designed to encourage students to pursue pure science as a career, he said.
At a time when most parents are unwilling or unable to consider student careers beyond the more conventional fields, the programme aims to give students and parents an idea about the possibility of pursuing a career in pure and applied sciences and its potential in the country, Vahia said.
The sessions will be interactive and addressed by various scientists including the director of TIFR Dr S Bhattacharya, he added.
