New Delhi, Oct 18: The civil aviation ministry is planning to put in place a new check-in system at the IGI airport in Delhi that would enable passengers to check-in their baggages and procure boarding cards from any of the counters in the terminal.
"This would take away the hassle of passengers waiting in a designated queue for their turn and evenly spread the rush across all counters," a ministry source said. "The first stage is already being implemented with installation of the CUTE (common user terminal equipment) system in one of the terminals at IGI."
"We are implementing this with adjoining counters of different airlines. If there is a huge queue at the British Airways counters and there are no passengers in the adjoining Kuwait Air counter, BA can place its personnel at the Kuwait Air counter and use that space to clear the rush," the official added.
IGI airport director PS Nair said additional counters were being created at the departure terminal to distribute the rush.
"We have already acquired the land earlier allotted to the Ashoka restaurant. We are in the process of placing orders for baggage reclaimer system and conveyer belts to create 15 additional check-in counters in that area," he added. IGI would also get its first transit lounge in November.
