Karnataka CM tells bureaucrats to focus on basic necessities
Bangalore, Jan 20: As he gears up to face the assembly polls this year, Karnataka Chief Minister S M Krishna today told key administrators in the state to set aside other things and concentrate only on drinking water, power supply, fodder for cattle and employment generation.
Addressing a conference of principal secretaries to
government, secretaries to government, deputy commissioners
and CEOs of zilla panchayats, Krishna called for drawing up
contingency plans in anticipation of demands of the summer.
The people would feel the "cumulative impact" of the last
three years' drought, in the coming summer. "Now we are in an
unfortunate position of seeing the bad effects of drought,"
Krishna said.
Krishna said funds would not be a constraint on the
drinking water front. "You anticipate drinking water
problems. Line up thousands of water tankers", he said, and
instructed DCs to report to the government every week on
drinking water position in their districts.
"In the next three months, give top priority for drinking
water, power supply, employment generation and fodder for
cattle. Other things can wait," he said.
Krishna said management of drought-relief works in the
state was commendable.
