Guwahati, Apr 05: Assam minister of state for home Rockybul Hussain today visited Gananagar and Dholai areas of Cachar district where members of the Dimasa community have taken shelter after the killing of 23 of their men by suspected Mizoram-based Hmar peoples convention. The minister, accompanied by state Director General of Police Harekrishna Deka, reviewed the law and order situation and directed the district authorities to tighten security measures, official sources said here.

Hussain also distributed on behalf of the chief minister Rs 10,000 each to the next of kin of those killed in the massacre.
He later visited Hmarkulin relief camp under Lakhipur sub-division and supervised relief operation.

Meanwhile, Cachar deputy commissioner P K Das also distributed ex-gratia payment of Rs 5,000 to the next of kin of those killed.
The army has increased its presence in the district even as the search for the five missing men continued.
The situation was under control with peace meetings held between the Dimasa and Hmar communities.
