police said today.
The police and SSB officials deployed along the vast border areas in the district are keeping a close vigil and night patrolling has been heightened, Pithoragarh, Superintendent of Police (SP) Vijay Bhatia told reporters.
Following the encounter in Bori Goan, Nepalese forces recovered heavy arms and ammunition including 16 bags of explosive material, three automatic rifles, two country maderifles, three Chinese made pistols and 40 rocket bombs, Bhati said citing intelligence reports.
"With increasing pressure exerted by Nepalese forces, we apprehend that Maoists may cross into Indian territory," he said.
According to the police official, it was estimated that the number of Maoists was 150 and they were reportedly planning to attack Nepalese district headquarters at Dharchula, an area close to Pithoragarh, when the encounter occurred.
