Rajasthan has traditionally been an agrarian state. Agriculture provides livelihood to about 70% of the workforce and contributes 45 % to the Net State Domestic Product (NSDP). The State has also made significant progress in development of basic infrastructure like irrigation, and industrial production has not only increased but has also diversified over the years. Rajasthan now produces a wide range of products such as synthetic yarn, cement, TV picture tubes, chemicals and fertilizers and even sophisticated electronic items. Another mainstay of the state`s economy is the public sector. It provides employment to millions and is predominant in certain industries such as for the production of minerals besides utilities, banking and insurance.
