Tehran, Sept 29: Iraqi Foreign Minister Naji Sabri, in Tehran to lobby support from old arch-enemy Iran against a threatened US-led attack, opened talks on Sunday with his Iranian counterpart Kamal Kharazi. Officials said that after the talks between the two ministers, Sabri was scheduled to meet with Iranian President Mohammad Khatami.

Sabri arrived in Tehran on Saturday, vowing to repair ties between the two neighbours who have remained at loggerheads since the end of their devastating 1980-1988 war.

He said he was carrying a message to Iranian leaders from Iraqi President Saddam Hussein "concerning the improvement of our bilateral relations".

Iraq and Iran have yet to fully restore diplomatic ties. While Iran is no friend of Saddam Hussein, officials here have voiced fears that US President George W.
