New Delhi, Dec 07: Ace Indian golfer Arjun Atwal brought himself within one stroke of the cut-off mark for a guaranteed USPGA tour card with a well compiled four-under 68 on the third day of the final qualifying stage of the USPGA Tour.
Atwal's tournament tally stands at five-under 211.
Atwal could not have asked for a better start to his round as the 31-year old eagled the par-5 first hole. By the time he reached the fifth tee box, he was in top gear, having birdied the third and fourth.
If bogeys on the sixth and eighth partly undid the good work, Atwal made up with a birdie finish to his outward journey. Another birdie on the tenth was followed by a bogey on the 11th, but the Kolkata based pro fired in his fifth birdie on the 17th to return a card of 68.
"I am making steady progress every day," said the top ranked pro on the Asian PGA Tour's Order of Merit. "The game is very much in place and I am putting better than ever before, but there are still three rounds to go before Monday so one cannot take things easy."
