Raipur, Nov 19: BJP today said considering the current situation in poll-bound Chhattisgarh, if the Election Commission recommends President rule in the state, Centre could consider that. "Since polls in Chhattisgarh were less than a fortnight away, BJP or the Centre cannot think of President rule in the state, but if the Election Commission recommends such a thing, the Centre could consider that," BJP general secretary Pramod Mahajan told.

Stating that people had doubts whether free and fair polls could be held in the state, Mahajan said the Election Commission should take extra steps to dispel that fear.

Refusing to draw a parallel between Jogi and former Union Minister Dilip Singh Judeo, Mahajan said Jogi is the only Chief Minister who has been chargesheeted for giving false caste certificate to contest polls and was also the only CM who not only faced a CBI probe but was also chargesheeted. He said a Chief Minister should not be selected on caste basis but if there are only two candidates for the post then it should go to tribal, dalit or woman. Bureau Report
