Agartala, Oct 11: Tripura government has registered a formal case against president of Indigenous Nationalist Party of Tripura (INPT) Bijay Kumar Hwrankhawl charging him with sedition, police sources said today. Police said the charge was framed against Hwrankhawl under section 120/B, 121/A, 124/B and 124 of Indian penal code and the case was registered at west Agartala police station yesterday.
The case may be handed over to CID, the police said. Hrankhawl was charged for supporting the activities of banned INPT and All Tripura Tiger Force (ATTF) and demanding self determination for tribals in the state during the 20th meeting of the working group of indigenous people held in Geneva in July.
The speech of the INPT president triggered repurcussion in the state with all major political parties, including ruling Left Front demanding immediate legal action against Hwrankhawl. Three persons of INPT and Congress were killed and 26, including a sub-inspector of police, injured in police firing on stone throwing supporters of the two parties trying to block Agartala-Sabroom main road at Satchand in south Tripura district.
