Hyderabad, Jan 07: Philips India plans to focus on the DVD (digital versatile disc) segment of the consumer electronic sector.
The market is poised to touch Rs 500 crore this year from Rs 75 crore last year, said Gautam Dalal, brand manager (DVD marketing) of the company. “We want to claim our rightful 50% share of this growing market in India this year, as an inventor of DVD technology,” he told media persons at the launch of the DVD 320.
To do this, the company is planning to launch a slew of products this month, which include DVD music systems and DVD home theatre products.
Gautam said it was the sleekest and lightest product available in the market and it fits everywhere and to every product, including the old B& W TVs. “And above all, it is the most affordable one available at Rs 4,990. We want this product to replace existing VCDs, particularly in rural markets,” he added.
