Patna, Apr 11: Amid raging crisis in Bihar unit of Samata Party, senior party leader Nitish Kumar arrived here today to take stock of the situation, two days ahead of a crucial party meeting called by state Convenor Bashist Narain Singh on April 13 to discuss party affairs.
''I will talk to our legislators about recent developments in the party,'' Kumar, who is also railway minister, told reporters here. He, however, did not make any comments on party legislators' action of bringing up a censure resolution against Samata President George Fernandes and suspension of two pro-Fernandes MLAs and an MLC from the Samata legislature party on April 5. In reply to a question about reports of his differences with Fernandes and his (Kumar's) supporters' request for taking over the reins from Fernandes, Kumar said "the Election Commission has not derecognised the party and hence he (Fernandes) remains at the helm of the party."
On his reported hobnobbing with JD(U) President, Sharad Yadav, and whether he was planning to merge with the JD (U), Kumar said being members of the NDA it is quite natural for us to frequently meet to discuss issues facing US. Bureau Report
