Ghaziabad, Aug 19: A central excise team raided the house and a chemical factory belonging to Samajwadi Party National General Secretary Amar Singh's brother Arvind Singh, overnight and sealed some documents pertaining to quotas allocated by Uttar Pradesh government, officials said today. Raids were also conducted on four other chemical factories in neighbouring Sahibabad belonging to local businessmen, excise department officials said. The searches were conducted following information that Singh's Easter India limited was allegedly selling in black methyl alcohol, which it received at subsidised rates from the government for the manufacture of methyl acetate used in lamination, said assistant commissioner Amarjeet Singh, who led the raiding party. Arvind Singh's company has the largest quota of 93 lakh litres for methyl alcohol, officials said and claimed that they found certain anomalies pertaining to misuse of quota.
