Lucknow, May 28: With the withdrawal of support to Mayawati government by Rashtriya Lok Dal now almost certain, a new political equation is likely to take shape in the state
which would not only step up efforts to dislodge the BJP-BSP alliance government but also strive to provide an alternative.
"With the Congress' call to the opposition to unitedly
fight the Mayawati government and chances of a realignment
between RLD and the Samajwadi Party, a new political equation
appeared very much on the cards," political observers say.
Former chief minister and Rashtriya Kranti Party chief Kalyan Singh has been making hectic efforts to bring arch rivals RLD president Ajit Singh and SP supremo Mulayam Singh Yadav together, RLD sources here said.
A pointer to this direction also came from the RLD vice president Rameshwar Singh yesterday when he said the decision about withdrawal of support to the Mayawati government had been delayed' because of the demise of Yadav's wife. Singh had reportedly visited Yadav, to condole' his wife's death.
The two leaders also reportedly discussed the current political situation, RLD sources said adding a meeting could take place in the next couple of days in New Delhi.
Following RLD's threatened withdrawal of support, the government would be left at the mercy of independents and some splinter groups, the opposition sources said adding it would make their task much easier.
The opposition was also banking upon the one time rebels' in the BJP as it felt that resentment still brewed because the state leadership's promise to them to accommodate them in state owned corporations and elsewhere, was yet to fructify.
The opposition circles believed that disgruntled elements within the BJP could come out in the open at the opportune time, sources said.
