Bangalore, June 18: The government planned to adopt the "China approach" to negotiate with the US for concessions on providing market access to American firms in India, Arun Shourie, Union IT and communications minister said. "India is a very important market for US companies. When China allows market access to US firms, they negotiate concession agreements for items of their interests. So should we," Shourie said, asked how the government planned to tackle the outcry in US and Europe against outsourcing to India.

Stating that there was absolutely no need to panic, Shourie said that the proposed bills against outsourcing had not been passed. He said Indian embassies abroad were in touch with legislators and efforts were being made to educate them on the benefits of outsourcing.
"US firms that benefit from outsourcing to India should publicise the benefit accrued," he said. "If that access is denied to them, they will become uncompetitive vis-a-vis German firms," he added. Shourie also asked IT leaders to join the government in projecting India as an ideal investment destination for both software and hardware. Bureau Report
