New Delhi, Sept 02: Days before the WTO ministerial conference in Mexico, Swadeshi Jagran Manch today said India should withdraw from WTO and build an alternative trade body if the developed countries do not reduce their subsidies and allow greater market access to the developing countries.
"Developed countries like the us will never give us equal status in the WTO; the global body was set up in the first place to exploit developing countries, Dattopant Thengdi, the founder leader of SJM, an RSS outfit, said here.
Addressing a rally in protest against the inequalities in the WTO, Thengdi said developing nations should come together under India's leadership to form a second global trade body. He said if all the countries could get equal rights and benefits from the existing WTO, then the developed nations would be compelled to leave that organisation which they have used as an instrument of exploitation.

Though it was highly unlikely that the US and EU would accept India's legitimate demands, the country must boost the morale of the Indian delegation which would represent the country at cancun and thank them if they succeed in getting parity for the developing countries at the WTO, he added.

If they fail, SJM would oppose the government and its policies, he said, adding, "gore deshon ki dadagiri nahin chalegi" (bullying tactics of the 'white' countries will not work). Bureau Report
