Chennai, Nov 24: Karnataka Chief Minister S M Krishna today said the late Murasoli Maran was a champion of common people and fought for their rights throughout his life.
Krishna, who arrived here from Bangalore to pay homage to the late leader who passed away yesterday, told reporters that Maran had conducted negotiations at the WTO meeting at Doha "very efficiently", strengthening not only the country's stand but also that of the developing world.
Maran was not convinced by the arguments put forth by the developed nations, Krishna said.
He said he knew Maran since 1968 and in Maran's death, he had lost a personal friend. 'I valued his friendship' he said.
Maran was known for his tactics and political acumen, he said.
