Paradip, May 28: Tension gripped this port township after armed persons attacked president of ruling BJD's Paradip unit Kishori Parida injuring him seriously, official sources said here today. Five armed miscreants chased Parida in the busy Badapadia market and fired at him with a revolver last night. They then hacked him.
Parida, who took shelter inside a shop, collapsed even as the attackers escaped. He was rushed to the S C B Medical College Hospital at Cuttack for treatment. Police had seized the revolver, which the miscreants had left behind.
Panic stricken shop owners, who downed their shutters, observed a total bandh in the town today. Even medicine shops and telephone booths remained closed in Badapadia market as also in the Nuabazar, Atharbanki and Tarini market areas.
No arrest had been made in this connection so far, police said. Bureau Report
