New York, Sept 20: Promoter Bob Arum has backed away from comments he made after Oscar de la Hoya's controversial points loss to Shane Mosley. He labelled Mosley's win an "outrage" and claimed a commission member involved in selecting the judges for the bout had been guilty of misconduct, branding boxing "the garbage can of sports".
But Arum backtracked on Thursday, after Nevada boxing officials said they wanted him to substantiate his claims.
"In the emotional and heated moments after his disappointing loss, I, unfortunately, reacted by making comments that might be interpreted as inappropriate to the state of Nevada and its athletic commission," Arum said.

Commission legal counsel Keith Kizer said that Arum will be sent a letter inviting him to appear before the commission and formally lay out his charges of misconduct.
"He has made some serious allegations. We want to hear from our licencees, and if they have a problem we want to know," Kizer said. Bureau Report
