Bhutia, city giants East Bengal pipped Tollygunge Agragami 2-0
in a Kolkata super division Football League match here today.
Bhutia, guilty of wasting a number of chances in the
barren first half, broke the ice in the 77th minute before
scoring an insurance goal two minutes later to help his side
bring home full points from the well-contested match at the
East Bengal ground.
East Bengal, desperate to break the jinx in the second
session, pressed the attack button and frequented raids into
the rival citadel that finally brought the desired results.
Medio Surkumar, fed by a pass from the middle, raced down the right and essayed a Centre for Douglas Da Silva inside the opponents' box.
As the Brazilian headed the ball down, Bhutia, lurking close by, swung into action and slotted home with a crisp left footer from over the six-yard box.
A baffled Tollygunge defence could have hardly digested the offensive when Bhutia found the net yet again from a combined move to take his personal tally to eight - the highest in the league so far.
With this, East Bengal now have 21 points from seven matches while Tollygunge remained with 12 points from nine outings. Bureau Report
