Talhan remains under curfew, situation peaceful
Jalandhar, June 16: Even two days after a truce between the two communities over the dispute on control of Talhan Gurudwara, curfew today remained in force as a precautionary measure in the village which was rocked by clashes last Thursday.

"The situation in the village is normal and peace prevailed in other adjoining areas including Bootan Mandi, where one person was killed in police firing. But as a precautionary measure, curfew will continue for a couple of days more," said Deputy Commissioner A K Gupta.
While in Talhan village relaxation in curfew was given between 8 am to 12 pm to villagers, day-time relaxation in the curfew from 5 am to 6 pm would continue in the Boota Mandi area, he said. Gupta said the state government has withdrawn receiver appointed with immediate effect after signing the agreement on Saturday and now local management committee was managing the affairs of shrine.
Meanwhile, the ten people, five each from Dalit and Jat communities, arrested in connection with the violence, have been granted bail and released from jail, police sources said. The release of these ten people was one the points of the peace agreement signed between the two communities in presence of civil and police administration on Saturday.
Veteran film star and MP Sunil Dutt, along with a battery of ministers and local MLAs, visited the gurudwara at Talhan village and prayed for return of peace in the village. Bureau Report
