England, July 08:British Formula One world champions Nigel Mansell and Damon Hill are not doing enough to help safeguard the future of the British Grand Prix, according to their former rivals Martin Brundle and Mark Blundell. "Damon and Nigel could have come and helped in this campaign - let's not beat up on Silverstone constantly, let's give it some support," said Brundle, who is chairman of Silverstone's owner, the British Racing Drivers' Club.
"The BRDC was there for us when we were coming up. A lot of the guys took the glory and the adulation and now it's time to put something back."
Blundell added: "It's one of the disappointments for us that there isn't more support from our exclusive club - other former F1 drivers - who have got a great deal out of the sport." Brundle said there was a very real threat to the future of the British GP, which has been criticised by F1 boss Bernie Ecclestone in recent years.

"The British Grand Prix can't be guaranteed - nothing is in perpetuity. It can't rest on its laurels. One thing is for sure - if we do nothing, we'll lose it," Brundle said.

The race is under threat because there are a number of countries vying to get onto the F1 calendar, which is restricted to 17 races.

Bahrain and China are expected to win places in 2004, while Russia is another country pushing for a race.

Brundle said the industry was in danger if the country lost its Grand Prix, but he added that he expected a supportive decision from the government soon.
