Hyderabad, June 12: Andhra Pradesh unit of Janata Dal(U) has sought intervention of the Centre in resolving Krishna River water sharing dispute with neighbouring Karnataka vis-a-vis Paragodu project on Chitravathi. In a memorandum submitted to governor S S Barnala, state JD(U) chief T Laxman said here today Karnataka was contemplating on 12 irrigation projects on Krishna River which would affect the flow of water to the state.

Paragodu project would adversely affect Rayalaseema region which is already an arid land, he said and urged the Governor to seek Centre's intervention in solving the issue. Though the project was meant to provide drinking water, its goal has now been shifted and it has been converted into an irrigation project, he said in the memorandum.

Calling for an united struggle against Karnataka's moves, he said all political parties should protest the neighbouring state's decision as it would badly affect Ananthapur and Kurnool districts.
Telugu Desam and state BJP had organised demonstrations on the border of Karnataka while Congress held a dharna in the state capital against the Paragodu project.
