Patna, Aug 08: Bihar Minister of State for primary and adult education Birendra Prasad resigned today accusing his senior Ram Chandra Purve of belittling his status and asked the Chief Minister to order an inquiry into the matter. In his resignation letter to Chief Minister Rabri Devi, Prasad alleged Purve was trying to belittle his status and indulging in character assassination and asked her to order an impartial inquiry. Talking to a news agency Prasad alleged that Purve had been maligning him for a long time and in the most recent such incident he used the District Education Officer (DEO) of east Champaran Om Prakash Shukla to 'sully my image'. Shukla had alleged that Prasad had on July 18 summoned him to Motihari circuit house and sought rupees one lakh from him, threatening him with dire consequences if he failed to oblige.
Terming the allegation as "a bundle of lies", Prasad said ''I have no right to continue as minister when my sub-ordinates are levelling wild allegations against me at the behest of my senior... I have sent my resignation letter to the Chief Minister and requested her to order an impartial inquiry into the entire episode.'' Bureau Report
