Kathmandu, Nov 11: At least 1200 people were killed by both Maoists and the state after the unilateral breaking up of cease-fire by the Maoists on August 28, a Human Rights group said in a report today. According to the report by informal sector service centre (Insec), 876 people were killed by the security forces and 337 were killed by the Maoists, the report said.

Altogether 8,184 people were killed since February 13, 1996, when the rebels launched violent struggle demanding abolition of monarchy and multiparty democracy in the country, the report said. Of them 5,531 people were killed by the state and 2,653 were killed by the Maoists.

The security forces killed 80 people and the Maoists killed 47 people during the six month cease-fire period that lasted till August-end, revealed the Insec report.

Children suffered most during the seven year long insurgency, which left dead altogether 339 children under the age of 17, the report said. The Maoists killed 83 children and 156 children became victims of the actions by the security forces.

The state killed 1,682 people since October 4, 2002, when King Gyanendra dismissed elected Prime Minister and assumed executive and the rebels killed 701 people during the same period.
