New Delhi, Mar 11: The congress today ruled out the possibility of consensus opposition candidates against Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee or his deputy L K Advani saying it was not feasible in the absence of any all-India alliance.
Congress working committee member Pranab Mukherjee told newspersons while releasing the party's chargesheet against the NDA government that the congress was going to have understanding with other opposition parties in respective regions where more than two parties were bound to fight. ''There is no all-India alliance of the opposition which could have ensured consensus candidates. For example we have no alliance with the CPI(M)...This is not a bi-polar but a multi-party elections. We will be fighting against each other in three states,'' he said in reply to a question. Mukherjee, however, said depending on the strength of a particular opposition party in a particular area, the question of putting up a common candidate could be decided. Bureau Report
