Guwahati, Apr 23: Three persons were killed and two others seriously injured in a group clash today prompting the authorities to impose indefinite curfew in Assam's Goalpara district, official sources said. A 72-hour bandh was called by the Rabha-Hasong autonomous demand committee from today in the district but local traders defied the call and opened shops and business establishments. The tribals tried to forcibly close down the shops and this led to clash resulting in the death of three persons and serious injury to two others, sources said. Police rushed to the spot and tried to bring the situation under control but tension prevailed forcing district authorities to clamp indefinite curfew in the entire district barring Matia, Norna and Bagnan areas.

Police patrolling has been intensified in the district and several people have been rounded up for interrogation, the sources added. The deceased were yet to be identified.
