Patna, Apr 19: In intensified raids to ensure free and fair polls, a joint team of district police and CRPF arrested an alleged history-Sheeter Tarun Singh along with his six associates from Dabaspur village of rural Patna and seized sophisticated arms late last night, police said today. On a tip off, a joint team of police and CRPF led by Superintendent of Police (Rural), Gangeshwar Prasad Sinha raided the village and arrested Tarun Singh and his associates from a panchayat bhawan, Senior Superintendent of Police Patna Nayyar Hussnain Khan told reporters.

Singh, brother of Dabaspur Panchayat Mukhiya Barun Singh, was wanted in seven cases of murder and dacoity, the SSP said.
One AK-47, two Mauser 30.6 rifles and over 180 live cartridges were recovered from the arrested person, Khan said and expressed suspicion that the ak-47 might be one among the massive cache of arms dropped at Purulia in West Bengal in 90s. "We are probing this aspect," he added.

Gaurichak, from where the seven persons were arrested, falls under Barh parliamentary constituency from where senior JD (U) leader Nitish Kumar is pitted against RJD rival Vijay Krishna.

Five other alleged criminals were arrested from Kotwa panchayat here this morning, the SSP said.
In the continuing crackdown on alleged criminals, over 600 people have been arrested so far in Patna district, Khan said.
