New Delhi, June 26: Delhi Pradesh Congress Committee (DPCC) today welcomed the Centre's decision to accord second language-status to Punjabi and Urdu in the National Capital. "It is a victory to the Punjabi and Urdu-speaking people as well as for the Congress," DPCC president Prem Singh said.
Recalling that Congress, in its election manifesto in 1998, had promised to make Punjabi and Urdu the second language in Delhi, Singh said, "Though the Centre adopted delaying tactics, it had to relent to the intense pressure put on it by the Delhi government and the people.”
