Bali (Indonesia), Jan 06: Indonesian and Australian investigators will examine a key suspect's laptop computer that could reveal information about the al Qaeda-linked organisation allegedly behind the October 12 Bali bombings. In a separate development, a German citizen of Egyptian descent has gone on trial in Jakarta accused of visa violations. Indonesian police and intelligence officers are split over whether Seyam Reda might have ties to al Qaeda and possibly financed the attacks.
Samudra, who has at least five aliases and is believed to have learned how to make bombs in Afghanistan, was arrested on November 21. He is alleged to be a key planner and executor of the bombings that killed 192 people, mostly foreign tourists.

"His computer is very important to us indeed," Pastika said.
Police have said the computer could contain information on Jemaah Islamiyah, the al Qaeda-linked regional terror group blamed for the attack. Experts hope to read e-mails sent from the machine and access deleted files.
Pastika said that along with Australian police, lawyers for Samudra would also be present when the computer is examined. Australian officers are participating in the probe because 88 of the victims of the attack were Australian.
