New Delhi, Nov 02: The Election Commission has asked for a compliance report from the Gujarat government on its directive on transfer of officers, including senior-level police officials, who have served in a particular district or were posted in their home district for the last four years. EC sources said that the state government has already sent compliance reports to the chief electoral officer on some transfers, which would be compiled and forwarded to the commission.
The commission had communicated the directive to the chief secretary last month to ensure free and fair polls in the state which has been scheduled for December 12.
The sources said that the transfer would cover officers in the rank of collectors, returning officers, assistant returning officers, deputy commissioners, sub-divisional magistrates, IGS, DIGs, DSPs and SPs.
Keeping a strict vigil on the conduct of free and fair polls in the state, which was hit by communal violence, the commission yesterday directed the state government to remove forthwith hoardings and posters along "communal lines".
