Committee has appealed to Chief Minister Vilasrao Deshmukh to
reintroduce the Act of 1980 which enabled the state government
to detain persons making inflammatory statements which could
lead to communal flare-up.
MPCC made the demand in the light of "statements" made by VHP leader Praveen Togadia in various places in the state, an MPCC release said here today.
Under the Act of 1980, any person making provocative statements with the intention of evoking communal passions and disturbing the law and order situation in the state can be detained. MPCC also appealed to Deshmukh to take an early decision on the power crisis in several parts of the state and said, "There is a need to reduce the tariff urgently."
