Five Indian players who were due to have booked into the Australian Cricket Academy here have disappeared, the academy said on Thursday.
Immigration officials confirmed the players — three medium pace bowlers, a batsman and a wicketkeeper — arrived here on March 25. But the academy's head coach Wayne Phillips said when he went to pick the players up from the airport they could not be found and have not been seen since.
Phillips could not say what had become of the players.
"That's not up to me to comment on...we have passed it over to the Department of Immigration and the Department of Foreign Affairs," he said. "We're obviously concerned about their safety, so it was appropriate to go to those departments."
Phillips said he contacted the clinic, but they had not heard from the players.
The cricketers were sent to the academy by Karavali cricket clinic, based in Karnataka, as part of the academy's overseas training programme.
