Dehra Dun, Sept 30: In the second temple theft in Tehri district in one week, five idols, including two of 'ashtadhatu', worth lakhs of rupees in the international market, were found missing in than area, a senior official said today.

Thieves entered the Gauraja Mai temple on September 27 night and took away two ancient idols made of eight metals, three silver idols and five silver umbrellas, SDM Tehri B S Dhamik said. The theft was discovered the next morning by the temple priest who lodged an FIR, he said.
The incident comes close on the heels of a theft in a Satyanarayan temple in Thangaon area of the district last week where two asthadhatu idols, four silver umbrellas and a large antique brass pot were stolen.
In view of the thefts the administration has suggested that tehsildars deposit valuable items like idols and umbrellas made of asthadhatu, gold or silver in the treasury.
