New Delhi, Dec 12: Considering that everyone has waited so long for the release of Kaante, how much of a difference will another week of postponement make? Well, the fact is that December 13 has now made way for December 20 as the release date of Kaante. At another level, this latest bit of news has paved the way for what could well be the biggest ever film release in north India.
‘‘Despite the unfortunate delay, there is great anticipation centred around the release of the film,’’ says Udai Kaushish, the new distributor of Kaante in north India, ‘‘The idea is to reach out to the maximum number of people via the maximum number of screens so that everyone has the chance to see Kaante in its opening week.’’
Going by reel history, the Sanjay Dutt and Hrithik Roshan-starrer Mission Kashmir holds the record of being released with the maximum number of prints —73. The Sunny Deol-starrer Indian, in turn, was released with 69 prints. ‘‘Seventy prints is a realistic number. However, the number of prints is likely to go up. What is more important though is that multiplexes offer Kaante the opportunity to be screened in numerous shows, thus increasing the film’s visibility,’’ reasons Kaushish. Incidentally, a similar experiment was tried with The Guru which, on any given day, had as many as 36 shows of the film running, with the idea being that irrespective of the time the viewer visited a multiplex, The Guru would be on-screen.
Moving back to Kaante, the postponement of the film from December 13 has now left the door open for films such as Guru Mahaguru, starring Om Puri and Naseeruddin Shah, and Maseeha starring Inder Kumar and Namrata Shirodkar. Also set to hit the big screen in a limited way is the Ram Madhvani-directed Let’s Talk. In other words, with Kaante going the delay-relay way, there aren’t any thorns in the way for other films!
