Anthrax affects 24 in Bengal district
Murshidabad (W Bengal), July 23: Twenty-four persons have been afflicted by anthrax in the Domkol police station area of Murshidabd district where the dreaded disease has taken a heavy toll among the livestock.

taken a heavy toll among the livestock.
The Chief Medical Officer of health, Murshidabad, Dr
Bijon Kumar Mandal, said that the number of affected has been
rising steadily for the last four days in the two villages of
south Garibpur and Chak Ambarpur.
Mandal said that the villagers contracted the disease
after eating beef of an anthrax-affected cow. A medical team
had been sent from the district headquarters to pinpoint the
exact reason behind the outbreak.
Meanwhile, villagers said that a minor girl, Madina, had
died of the disease this morning.
The CMOH said that cows and goats affected by the disease had developed eruptions and wounds all over their bodies.
