Kolkata, Oct 26: The cricket board today said it wanted Sunil Gavaskar to continue as chairman of the National cricket academy even though the little master had expressed his desire to step down as he was hard-pressed for time.
"We need Gavaskar. The Indian cricket needs him. We will talk to him again," board president Jagmohan Dalmiya told newspersons here.
The former Indian captain, who holds the world record for highest number of test centuries, had recently expressed his "unavailability" for the job saying that he was not able to devote adequate time because of his tight schedule.
"We know that he is busy. What he says shows his greatness and sincerity. But we feel even if he is there in a policy-making capacity, it would benefit Indian cricket," the board chief said.
Gavaskar had taken over from Raj Singh Dungarpur as chairman of NCA in September last year.

Though Gavaskar had not resigned yet, he has made known his stand for quite some time, but the board has been persuading him to continue.
