Bangladesh's former foreign minister Badruddoza Chowdhury was sworn in Wednesday for a five-year term as this South Asian country's 13th president.
Chowdhury, who was elected unopposed for the largely titular position on Monday, was administered the oath by Chief Justice Mahmudul Amin Chowdhury in the presence of Prime Minister Khaleda Zia and other officials.

Former prime minister Sheikh Hasina Wajed and her opposition Awami League boycotted the oath-taking ceremony, having previously refused to take part in the presidential election. Chowdhury succeeded president Shahabuddin Ahmed, who returned to civilian life at the end of his five-year tenure. Bureau Report
