Ahmedabad, June 28: (pti) police today recovered a pipe
bomb and some material used for making explosives from an
`abandoned' house in the sensitive Shahpur area of the city
even as officials maintained that the seizure had "nothing to
do with the July 1 Lord Jagannath Rath Yatra".
The pipe bomb, packed in plastic bag full of dust was
noticed at a `Dhaba Point' by a policeman during `rehearsal'
in wake of security arrangements for the rath yatra, a top
police official told news agency.
"However, the seizure has nothing to do with the rath yatra and not meant for disrupting it", he said. No arrests have been made in this connection, he added.
"It can be said for certain that the material was not going to be used to disrupt the rath yatra as it was found in an abandoned house not in use since eight to nine months", the official said adding, "it seems that the tenant had left the house after last year's communal riots". The pipe bomb might have been stored in the house during communal violence that rocked the city last year, the official added.
