DF delegation demands resignation of NDA govt
A delegation of ruling Democratic Front (DF) coalition in Maharashtra, led by Chief Minister? Vilasrao Deshmukh, on Friday submitted a memorandum to governor P C Alexander demanding immediate resignation of BJP-led NDA government at the Centre saying `It has lost the confidence of people`.
"We, the members of Maharashtra legislative assembly and council, will be failing in our duty if we do not give expression to our feelings of anguish and disgust", the memorandum said referring to the recent expose of corruption in fictitious defence deals by a portal.
"The Vajpayee government has lost its moral right to aid and advise the president following the shocking revelations", the memorandum alleged.
Deshmukh, alongwith Deputy Chief Minister Chhagan Bhujbal
and other ministers and MLAs of the DF called on the governor
at Raj Bhavan in Mumbai.
"Due to lapses of the political leadership, the country
had to fight Pakistani infiltrators in Indian territory and
now the same leaders are involved in purchasing sub-standard
equipments and ammunition", the memorandum added.
Referring to tapes released by the portal, the memorandum
alleged "they clearly establish the union defence minister,
national security advisor and senior officers of the defence
ministry and the armed forces are actively involved in aiding
corrupt practices of various leaders of NDA government in
respect of the sensitive department of defence".
