Paris, Dec 09: Ferrari are aiming to have their new car up and running for the opening leg of the 2004 season, the Australian Grand Prix in Melbourne on March 7.
In the past two seasons six time champion Michael Schumacher has had to make do with the previous year`s car for the opening rounds of the Formula One championship.
But with Mclaren already testing their new MP14-19 car and Williams set to test their FW26 in January Ferrari team boss Jean Todt revealed they too were hoping to have their 2004 model in use for the F1 curtain raiser in Australia.
"We would like to be able to launch the new car in January, and to have its debut on the first race," he told Italy`s Gazzetta Dello sport newspaper.
Ferrari secured their fifth straight constructor`s title at Suzuka at the main expense of Williams-BMW.
