Banglore, Feb 09: For the third time in a row, Australia's Ricky Ponting and his invincible men proved that they are indeed the world champions. The first occasion was the 2002 World Cup final in Johannesburg, where the Indians came short by 125 runs. The second time was at Kolkata's Eden Gardens in November last when India lost by 37 runs in the TVS tri-series final. On Sunday, the Aussies added insult to injury when they outplayed the Indians by 208 runs in Sydney.
The VB tri-series has also taught Ganguly the harsh reality - that his team are way behind the Aussies.

Speaking on this issue from Bangalore, chairman of the national selection committee Syed Kirmani agreed with The Pioneer and said: "The Aussies have just done what they are capable of doing."

Commenting at the dismal performance of the Indians, and with the Pakistan tour around the corner, Kirmani suggested: "The team management has to sit with the boys and work out ways and means to lift their mental standard."

Besides, the former India stumper said the Indian bowlers need to bowl tirelessly in the nets. "In the matches, we have to bowl according to the field placements," Kirmani advised.

Even the Indian batsmen need to have clarity of mind when it comes to shot-selection. While studying their recent performance, it was felt that openers Tendulkar and Sehwag failed to give a good start to the innings.

Those who keenly followed the VB series would know that the Indians lost their nerve and heart in crunch situations after champion pacer Brett Lee lofted a winning six off Balaji in third league match against the Aussies at the SCG

"But I'm sure we will have the edge over the Pakistanis," Kirmani said. "Before that, some of the Indian players can take time out of cricket and be with their family and friends."
