Chandigarh, Nov 13: The Punjab and Haryana High Court today dismissed the anticipatory bail plea of Indi-pop singer Daler Mehndi in an alleged illegal human trafficking case. Passing the orders in a packed court room here, Justice Mehtab Singh Gill also issued notice of motion, returnable by November 20, to the Punjab government and the IG (Patiala Range).

Earlier after hearing arguments of the Daler's counsel, the judge reserved his order till evening.

The judge said Daler should be medically examined once every week in the event of his arrest. Daler's counsel would also be permitted to meet him twice a day -- once at 10 am and next at 7 pm, the judge ordered.

Taking a serious note of accusations levelled by Daler's counsel that his client was asked to take off clothes by police during his interrogation at Patiala on October 27 last and his car was smashed by a mob assisted by police, the court directed the IG (Patiala range) to file an affidavit by November 27 in this regard.

Meanwhile, Daler's counsel told reporters outside the court premises that the Punjabi singer would approach the Supreme Court to seek anticipatory bail.

The beleagured Indi-pop singer is in trouble as the Delhi High Court and Patiala court had already dismissed his anticipatory bail plea.

A Patiala court had recently issued non bailable warrants, returnable by November 17, against the singer who had gone incommunicado after appearing before Patiala police twice for questioning last month. Earlier, Daler's counsel submitted that his client had deposited his passport with the concerned authorities and was willing to join the investigations.

The petitioner contended that his life was in danger and he should be given protection.

Apprehending "humiliation" at the hands of police, Daler's counsel alleged that the petitioner was asked to take off his clothes for the identification purpose by Patiala police during his questioning on October 27.

"Daler's car was smashed and even the advocate accompanying him received injuries during the melodramatic performance by people assisted by police at Patiala during his appearance for questioning before police," the counsel alleged.

The Indi-pop singer's counsel also placed on record the copy of Delhi High Court order which declined to extend the ten-day interim bail plea of the singer, which ended on November 01. Bureau Report
