New Delhi, June 01: After announcing the decision to resume Delhi-Lahore bus service as part of Confidence-Building Measures, the government has called a meeting of officials of departments concerned on June three to discuss the nitty-gritty of the re-launch.
Although Islamabad is yet to respond to India's move on reciprocal basis, New Delhi is finalising the details of putting back the service that had been snapped on December 31, 2001, 18 days after the attack on Parliament by Pakistan-backed terrorists.

The meeting of officials of External Affairs Ministry, Delhi government and Delhi Transport Corporation (DTC) would discuss among other things, the feasibility of using the two buses which were plying on the route before the service was snapped, they said.

According to DTC officials, the Golden-coloured AC deluxe buses purchased for Rs 22 lakh each are in dilapidated conditions. Out of use on Delhi-Lahore route, these buses were put on domestic tourist circuits, like Dehra Dun and Nainital.

Bad roads and frequent plying accompanied by poor maintenance led to wear and tear, they said, adding one of the two buses sometime ago suffered a major damage on the rear side after a truck rammed into it.
