Mumbai, June 13: Mohammed Hussain Gafoor Chavan, held for his alleged complicity in the multi-crore answer paper scam that rocked Maharashtra Public Service Commission, was today produced before a special court, which remanded him to judicial custody till June 21. Mohammed Hussain, a locksmith, was arrested on May 31 by Anti-Corruption Bureau from his house in suburban Vikhroli and remanded to police custody till today.
Mohammed Hussain is the 21st accused in this case to be arrested. Others, including former MPSC chairman S D Karnik and P D Vani, are in judicial custody. During interrogations, Mohammed admitted to have entered MPSC office in south Mumbai and made duplicate keys of the main entrance as well as the entrance to the computer room where answer sheets were placed, ACB told the court. The case of ACB is that the accused had connived to replace answersheets of 399 students who appeared for written examination of MPSC held in 1999. This was done for illegal gratification ranging from Rs three lakh to Rs five lakh per student. Bureau Report
