Kolkata, Nov 10: Malaysian today urged India to reduce the import duty on palm oil while expressing its willingness to take up tourism projects in select locations in the country. "India is the biggest market for palm oil and imports huge quantity of the item from other countries, including Malaysia. We look for a reduction in the import duty on the product," Malaysian High Commissioner Dato S K Choo told newspersons here.

Malaysia, he said, was the biggest producer of palm oil and had its biggest export market in India. Choo also said that Malaysian companies were willing to take up tourism projects as also in development of airports in various locations of the country.

Malaysian firms have already started tourism projects in Tamil Nadu and housing projects in Karnataka and Kerala. On development of new airports, he said 18 locations in India were found to be attractive and the Malaysian firms, having requisite expertise in the area, were interested in taking up such projects.

About the IT sector, he said India had established itself as a stalwart in the software industry while the Malaysian government was focussing on hardware sector.

"Thus there could be a symbiotic relationship between the two countries in the IT sector," he said. Bureau Report
