CCS reviews progress in peace initiative with Pak
New Delhi, Aug 11: Progress on Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee`s peace initiative with Pakistan was reviewed today at a meeting of the Cabinet Committee on Security (CCS).
New Delhi, Aug 11: Progress on Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee's peace initiative with Pakistan was reviewed today at a meeting of the Cabinet Committee on Security (CCS).
"It was a routine meeting," External Affairs Minister Yashwant Sinha told reporters emerging from a 90-minute meeting of the CCS presided over by the Prime Minister.
The minister replied in the affirmative on whether pakistan-related issues figured at the meeting. Asked whether the Iraq situation came up, he shook his head, saying "No".
At the July 14 CCS meeting, it was decided that India could consider the issue of sending troops to Iraq only if there was an explicit UN mandate. Deputy Prime Minister L K Advani, Finance Minister Jaswant Singh, Deputy Chairman of the Planning Commission K C Pant and National Security Advisor Brajesh Mishra were also present at the meeting.
